Beliefs

The Triune God
We believe:

  1. There is but one God, who is a personal God, who in holy love creates, sustains, and orders all (Isa. 43:10; Heb. 1:1-4)
  2.  Jesus is the Lord of the church and of all life. (Phil. 2:5-11)
  3. Coventry believes that the Holy Spirit: (Jn 14:26; Acts 4:31)
  • is at work in the hearts and minds of believers
  • creates and sustains the church through the gospel
  • gives guidance and comfort
  • unites believers with their Lord and with one another

Uniqueness of Jesus
We believe:

  • Jesus is the Son of God (1 John 4:14)
  • He died for our sins (1 Cor. 15:4)
  • He was raised from the dead on the third day (1 Cor. 15:4)
  • He reigns now with the Father in heaven (Heb. 1:1-4)
  • He will return again to earth to gather His believers to Himself (Mat. 24:31)
  • He will eventually establish His eternal kingdom (Rev. 20)

.
The Bible, God’s Word
We believe the Bible:

  • is God’s inspired and inerrant (original copies) message to the world (2 Tim. 3:16, Mat. 24:35)
  • is correctly interpreted through the gospel of Jesus and the teachings of the New Testament (Mat. 24:35)
  • reveals God’s search for all persons, which is incredibly highlighted through Jesus' birth, life, death and resurrection (Jn. 1:14)
  • contains God's message that still speaks and continues to accomplish His redemptive purposes (Heb. 4:12)

.
The Gospel
We believe the gospel (good news) is:

  • that the Son of God took on flesh and was named Jesus (Phil. 2:7-8)
  • that Jesus died on a cross to pay the debt for human sin (1 Peter 2:24, Gal. 3:13)
  • that Jesus came back to life on the third day conquering death (1 Cor. 6:14)

The Family
We believe:

  • God has created the family as the foundational institution of human society.  It is composed of people related to one another by marriage, blood or adoption. (Ps. 127:3-5)
  • Biblical marriage is defined as the uniting of one man and one woman in covenant commitment for a lifetime.  The husband and wife are of equal worth before God, since both are created in God’s image. (Gen. 1:27; 2:24, Mt. 19:4-6)
  • Children, from the moment of conception, are a blessing and heritage from the Lord.  Parents are to demonstrate to their children God’s pattern for marriage. (Ps. 139:13)

Purity & Sexuality
We believe:

  • God’s plan is for sexual intimacy to occur within the committed relationship of biblical marriage– one man, and one woman, for life. (Heb. 13:4)
  • All other sexual practices outside this definition of marriage are defined as sin in the Bible. Sexual sin is not, however, unforgivable sin. (1 Cor. 6:18; Ex. 20:14)
  • The same forgiveness is available to all sinners. The Bible states that we all have sinned and can become new creations in Jesus. (Rom. 3:23; 2 Cor. 5:17)

.
Salvation
We believe:

  • Salvation is in Jesus alone. (Jn. 14:6)
  • All mankind is born sinful and in need of a savior (Eph. 2:1-2)
  • Those who trust in Jesus will be filled with the Holy Spirit here on earth and live with Him in Heaven after death. (Jn 15:26; Eph. 1:13-14)
  • Those who haven’t put their trust in Jesus will be sentenced to eternal punishment, cast away from God’s presence forever. (Rev. 14:11, Mat. 25:41-46; 2 Thes. 1:8-9)
